FUNK
La música Funk deriva del Jazz y el Rhythm & Blues. Frecuentemente se asocian algunas tendencia caribeñas como elementos de Mambo. El Funk se consigue fundamentalmente con fuerte batería y predominio del bajo secundariamente guitarras y muchas veces instrumentos de viento. El Funk ingreso a la música popular con James Brown en los años 60's. George Clinton (Parliament y Funkadelic) será importante en el estilo. El poderoso groove (concepto de Jazz) conseguido por la batería y el bajo lo hizo popular y se generaron muchos estilos de Funk de los cuales se verán algunos. En los 70's se asoció a la música Disco (ver sección Disco). En los 80's aparece Prince y da al Funk una gran evolución. Prince además hizo R&B. Posteriormente se fusiona con la música Dance (Coolio, Will Smith). Posteriormente el Funk evoluciona a bandas como Red Hot Chili Peppers o Jamiroquai. El Funk sigue evolucionando, con Beastie Boys se introduce el Hip-Hop y otros ritmos. El Funk- Rock está presente desde su origen como en bandas como Funkadelic o Grand Funk Railroad.
